This is Greenback. When he hatched he was my favorite hen as he would come right up to me & eat right out of my hand. Then I noticed he was steadily becoming un-hen like. I think he hatched in Aug., I disremember but that hatching was born when the sun was on it's way down. The sister hen has yet to lay an egg but something Mike & I thought

so neat was that Greenback gave his very first crow at 1:00 pm, a half hour after the solstice occured. The crowing around here has been pretty nonexistant since Oct. but since the 21st, it's coming back a little in the morning. Thank you God for the sun!
Annie & maybe Abigail too are close to kidding, though Abby doesn't look near as big as Annie.
We will shampoo her before the milking commences. She has her mother's lopsided teat, we're hoping she doesn't have the mastitis tendency. You can almost taste the milk!

Salt & Pepper sitting on her clutch. She brooded us 11 chicks, praise God. We're thankful. Another clutch of 12 or 13 seems to be taken over in shiftwork between an experienced hen & a first year. They take turns sitting on it while the other goes to eat, drink, dust, roost, scratch, whatever. I hope they settle it by next week.
